Heather Thompson , the President of the Tualatin Valley
Gleaners
Nomination Letter:
LETTER FROM NOMINEE:
Hello Rick,
So the "We Work For Food" Picture is a small sampling of the T V Gleaners members. We wanted to let the community know that we are here, and we will work with dignity to glean their trees and orchards, and that we are proud of who we are. I am the one to the left of the sign, in a pink shirt - waving!
I am also sending a picture I had taken today, where I am donating cherries that were donated to the Tualatin Valley Gleaners during a “Fresh Summer Food Drive in the Farmers markets of Washington County. Since we give away food on Saturdays this donation would not have lasted till then, so we as a group arranged to donate this to the Oregon Food Bank where it could be distributed throughout their partner agencies.
Thanks again for the recognition. I am honored and humbled.

NOMINATION LETTER: from Reba Khalil
Message: Heather and her entire family spend countless hours with city officials,
government agencies, farmers markets, local markets and stores, area
farmers and growers and various organizations working towards the
improvement of the weekly distribution of food and personal care items
to the Tualatin Valley Community. Heather and her family even make a hot
meal each Sunday and take it with drinks and fruit to distribute to the
homeless under a Portland bridge. For some this is the only HOT meal
they will have all week. She and her family are treated with respect and
they are very grateful. Heather is the President of The Tualatin Valley
Gleaners and she lives to give to her community. I volunteered for 2
years with the organization and saw Heather have her Gall Bladder
removed on Friday and show up in the fields to help pick Blueberries on
Monday. She is more than an everyday hero, she is a champion that
deserves a little \"ME\" time.
