Grease” co-stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John are collaborating on a new holiday-themed album, “This Christmas.”
"I wanted people to be able to play it around the house or in the car during the holiday, and make us part of your celebration," Travolta said in a statement. "Gathering around the house listening to Christmas music has always been an important part of that time of year to my family."
And nestled among a number of Christmas standards is an all-new original song, “I Think You Might Like It,” that’s billed as a sequel to their duet “You’re the One That I Want” from the classic 1978 movie musical. The new song is written by John Farrar, who wrote the now-famous song from “Grease.”
Which, we play on Oldies from time to time.
“If it wasn't for that song, we wouldn't be here talking about it 30 years later," Newton-John said in the release trumpeting the album.
Travolta said the idea to record together again 34 years after “Grease” came from a Christmas-time text from Newton-John alerting him that “You’re the One That I Want” became the best-selling duet in pop music history.
The 13-track album, which goes on sale Nov. 16, is already available for pre-order on Amazon.
If the star wattage wasn’t enough, “This Christmas” also features vocals from Barbra Streisand, Kenny G, Chick Corea, James Taylor and Tony Bennett.
Proceeds from the album sales will go to a pair of charities close to the hearts of the actors. The money will be split between the Jett Travolta Foundation — created in honor of Travlota’s late son who died at the age of 16 from injuries sustained during a seizure — and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
