Highway 217 Reopens After Hall Boulevard Demolition

Highway 217 in Tigard was closed over the weekend for demolition of the Hall Boulevard overpass. The closure caused long delays on secondary roads including Pacific Highway and Greenburg Road where traffic was diverted.

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday morning, crews reopened all lanes of OR 217 between OR 99W and Greenburg Road. All on-ramps leading up to the closure area on northbound and southbound OR 217 also reopened, with the exception of the Hall Boulevard on-ramp to southbound OR 217 in Beaverton which remains closed for reconfiguration.

The closure was necessary to safely demolish the Hall Boulevard overpass in Tigard. The overpass will be replaced with a new overpass with wider footings to make room for the new auxiliary lanes and shoulders underneath. We don't close highways unless we absolutely have to, so we especially appreciate your patience and flexibility during the past two highway closures.

Demolition of the overpass included removal of several hundred tons of concrete along with seven steel girders.

Project neighbors should expect daytime construction and periodic nighttime noise as the new Hall Boulevard overpass in Tigard is rebuilt this year. Over the next couple weeks, pile driving - or heavy-duty hammering - is needed to hammer steel columns into the ground to support the new overpass. This work is expected to occur intermittently through early April. Pile driving will only happen during daytime hours.

ODOT has a 24/7 noise hotline for noise concerns: (503) 412-2349. ODOT will update the project website with more details as they are available.
